Meet the Candidate

Chelsea Kirk is excited to offer her candidacy as the state representative for Kentucky’s 73rd House District. She brings core values of people-first governance, deep listening to constituents, and a policy-over-party perspective to this campaign and to our neighborhoods.

Chelsea grew up in Bullitt County, KY. As the daughter of a Marine Corp veteran and a Nurse Practitioner, she learned from a young age that each of us has a responsibility to serve our community. In order to develop her abilities, Chelsea focused on her education. She was a 2006 Governor’s Scholar, and then went on to complete her Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Kentucky in 2011. This is also where she met her husband, Anthony Schmidt.

In an effort to explore other places, Chelsea moved to Canada and completed her Master’s Degree at the University of Western Ontario in 2013. She then moved, with her husband, to Seattle, WA, where Anthony worked at Microsoft and Chelsea worked as a Salesperson for a small technology startup (PayScale.com), which scaled rapidly over the following years.

In 2017, Chelsea and Anthony began to discuss starting their family. They knew there was only one place where they wanted to raise their children: Kentucky. They returned home to District 73 that year, and Anthony started his own software company. Since 2017, Chelsea and her husband have worked together to grow their family business and have welcomed two sons, the first in 2020 and the second in 2022.

Chelsea believes that democracy is best served when citizens have options when it comes to who represents them. She cannot wait to meet you!
